    The Marshall Plan
    Truman appointed George Marshall to be Secretary of State The Marshall Plan consisted of ideas to help rebuild western Europe both economically and spiritually. Marshall also hoped that his plan would help minimize or eliminate the communism that was being practiced in this region.
  • The Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine
    In Truman's Doctrine, he had asked congress for $400 million to help support military and economic funds in Greece and Turkey.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    NATO = North Atlantic Treaty Organization. During the cold war, NATO was created to help minimize/eliminate communism. The United States, along with 11 other countries made up NATO to help eliminate communism across the world.
  • The Korean War

    The Korean War
    North Korea declared war on South Korea. The US had a lot of newer ships and war materials since WWII ended 5 years prior to the Korean War. The Korean War was the first military action of the Cold War.
  • Creation of the Warsaw Pact

    Creation of the Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was a treaty signed by Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union to created an alliance ship between the countries. Followed a resemblence of the creation of NATO.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    North Vietnam declared war on South Vietnam. North Vietnam had Ho Chi Minh as their communist leader. The United States and the Soviet Union were just in the Cold War and the Vietnamese was basically an after effect.
  • Soviets Launch Sputnik

    Soviets Launch Sputnik
    Spuntik was the world's first artificial satellite that was launched into space. This was a big upset for the United States because we were supposed to be the most up to date on technology and be the smartest, most successful people, and the Soviets beat us to the punch. This was the US-USSR Space Race.
  • Bay of Pigs

    The US had an invasion planned on Cuba to try to overthrow Castro to establish a non-communist nation.
  • The Rise of the Berlin Wall

    The Rise of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall was created to seperate East and West Germany when divided post WWII by the United States, Great Britain, and France, and the Soviet Union.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The US found out that the Soviet Union had been making missiles in Cuba. The US put a naval blockade, not knowing how the Soviet Union would react. We made a deal with the Soviet Union that if they disarmed the missiles, we wouldn't invade Cuba and to remove our missiles from Turkey.
  • The Six Day War

    The Six Day War
    Israel felt the need to protect itself from the surrounding Arab nations. On June 5th, cities were destryoed because Israel meant business. Israel didn't want to sit around and wait to be attacked, they went out and attacted their assumed enemies. Israel defeated the Arab nations.
  • SALT

    SALT consisted of the negoations between the United States and the Soviet Union on limitations that could be used during war such as missels. Treaties were signed multipole times for these limitations.
  • Nixon Visits China

    Nixon Visits China
    Nixon was the 1st president to visit China. Nixon estabilished a trade pact with China - this is why so much of the things sold in the United States say 'Made In China'.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall/German Reunification

    Fall of the Berlin Wall/German Reunification
    East German Peope finally had enough and built up the courage to tear down the Berlin Wall. Berlin's Wall was built to seperate East and West Germany because Berlin was a central focal point during the Cold War. Because the wall was taken down, it made East and West Germany unify into one Germany.
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union go seperated into 15 different colonies. The Soviet Union ended up favoring democracy and capitolism, which made the United States very happy, and ultimatley, the collapse of the Soviet Union ended the Cold War.
