    The United States CIA trained paramilitary groups to overthrow the Soviet allied leftist government of Cuba. These troops were defeated and publically interrogated before being sent back to the US.

    A wall was constructed by Eastern German forces (USSR backed) to prevent emigration. They claimed it was to protect agianst facists in west Berlin. Around 600 people died attempting to escape East Germany ove the wall.

    American astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins take the first ever manned space flight to the moon. Aldrin and Armstrong both spend time on the moon's surface and bring back material for study.
