The Truman Doctorine was a policy set by the U.S. President Harry Truman in a speech stating that the U.S. would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent their falling into the Soviet sphere. -

The Korean War
This was a war between North and South Korea. It started when North Korea invaded South Korea. This invasion was the first military action of the cold war. The Americans entered the war on South Koreas side. Almost 40,000 Americans died in this war. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
Origionally the Warsaw Pact was a response to a similar treaty made by the Western Allies (NATO). But the Warsaw Treaty was really based on total equality of each nation and mutual non-interference in one another's internal affairs. The Pact became a powerful tool for the Soviet Union over its allies. -
Vietnam War
This war was between North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The U.S supported South Vietnam because they wanted to prevent the spread of communism and to unify the country of Vietnam. -
Bay of Pigs
This was an unsuccesful invasion of Cuba. The plan was to have two air strikes against cuban airbases but what really happened was that eight bombers left Nicaragua to bomb the Cuban airfields but the bombers missed many of their targets and left most of the airforce intact. -
The Berlin Wall Goes Up
After the war, West Germany set up a capitalist society and experienced such a rapid growth of their economy. Since the Soviet Union had viewed East Germany as a spoil of war, the Soviets took out factory equipment and other important things from their zone and shipped them back. Because of this people started to leave the East. To keep the people in they built up the Berlin Wall. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
The Soviet Union was making missile sites on Cuba and the U.S found out. After hearing about this, Kennedy put up a naval blockade around Cuba. The U.S and Sovient Union both agreed to remove their missiles so there would be no nuclear war. -
US Sends Man to the Moon
Neil Armstrong was the first to land on the moon. The accomplishment placed the United States ahead of the Soviets in the Space Race and gave people around the world the hope of future space exploration. -
Nixon Visits China
Nixon visits China to normalize relations with the U.S and China.
It allowed Americans to view images of China for the first time in over two decades. -

The fall of the Berlin wall was when thousands of East Germans went to the gates of the Berlin Wall because their government had took off its ban on East Berlin and was now allowing them to freely pass into West Berlin. After world war 2 Germany was divided into two countries. They were separated for 40 years and then finally got reunited a year after the collapse of the Berlin Wall. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
The collapse began when the Soviet Union went into fifteen separate countries. The United States rejoiced as its enemy which finally ended the Cold War.
