  • Proclamation line of 1763

    King George III enforced this along the Appalachians and colonists were not allowed to settle west of this line
  • Tea Act

    The British East India Company was in debt, so the British passed the Tea Act, which forced colonists to buy tea ONLY from the company
    Citizens dumped a large shipment of tea into the Boston Harbor, which became known as the Boston Tea Party
  • First Continental Congress

    55 delegates met in Philadelphia
    Congress introduced the Declaration of Rights and Grievances that expressed loyalty to the king, but condemned the Coercive Acts and also decided to Boycott British goods
    April 1775~ Lexington and Concord first official battle of the American Revolution
  • Common Sense

    Thomas Paine attacked King George III, arguing that Parliament couldn't do anything without the king's support.
