    Japan controlled large sections of China for a little while. They were looking and seeking for raw materials to grow their businesses and industries. This long period of chaos cause much damage to China including their military and buildings. Even now the two countries have not agreed. The Japanese took advantage of China and use their weaknesses against them.

  • Rape on Nanking

    Rape on Nanking
    Japanese general Iwan ordered Nanking to be destroyed. Much of the city was burned and the troops ordered murder. It became an estimate 150,000 men prisoners killing 50,000 civilians and raped 20,000 women. This was to break the Chinese down and get a hold of their leverage. This caused many families to be murdered including infants were killed. The Japanese burned down almost all of Nankings buildings.

    September 1, 1939
    After gaining the neutrality of the Soviet union, Germany started off World War II by invading Poland. Many countries including Britain and France responded by declaring war on Germany. Within the next month, Poland was defeated and was left in between Nazi Germany and the Soviet union. There’s mostly happen because the realization of the Germany getting dominance in Europe. Many thought there to be war.

    May 1940
    The Blitzkrieg or lightning war was with Germany’s invasion of Belgium, Netherlands, and France. This is a time when Germans used tanks, mobile infantry, and quickly defeated the allied defenses. Most of this happened because Germany overran Europe and relied on their new military tactics using new tactics. This blitz attack killed over 43,000 civilians. This also affected all of World War II because the tactics they were using were so quick that a limited loss of soldiers.

    Germany began its assault on Europe by invading many countries including France. In June, they signed an armistice which provided for the German occupation of the north half of the country. France had declared war on Germany and it was a failure. They had no military ideas, and horrible tactics. This caused Paris to fall majorly. This affected France. Humiliated them and after this they were short on food, coal, and clothing.

    After securing most of the Balkan region, the Germans invaded the Soviet union. This violated the German Soviet pact. Mostly in this month the Germans also occupied the Baltic states. The impact was that Stalin became a huge leader. During that summer German troops advanced into the Soviet union. On December 6, 1941 Soviet troops pulled a counteroffensive and drove out German forces. Operation Barbarossa was the codename for all of this. After this, Pearl Harbor was bombed.

    This was impetus for the US entrance into World War II. Japanese launch a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This was intended for the Japanese to attack as a preventative action to keep the US from interfering with military. This severely damaged American ships, civilians, and fleet. It prevented serious American interference with Japan. In response to this the US declared war on Japan and following this event a US also declared war on Germany.

    The Nazi party in Germany government gather in the Berlin suburbs of Wannsee to discuss the “Final solution of the Jewish question”. Otherwise known as genocide. This meeting concluded the 11 million Jews that would be chosen as part of the Nazi program. A man named SS general Reinhard Hedrich made this conference happen. This was also to discuss information to the other participants Hitler didn’t want them seeing.

    The Japanese four 76,000 Allied soldiers to March 80 miles across the Bataan peninsula. This was the largest army under control to ever exist. They were only 60 survivors. They had no food, no water, and they were being murdered. This was because of the surrender of the Bataan peninsula and this is when they were forced to march. This had a huge impact on New Mexico because most of them were Filipino. This intensified the Japanese feelings of the US.

    The battle of Midway was a fight between the US Navy and the Japanese Navy. It lasted six months after Pearl Harbor. After the Japanese attack, a group of flyers flew to Midway to bomb them. They tried twice and both tries were unsuccessful. But the US was able to launch a surprise attack on the Japanese fleet. This turned the tide of the war. It ended an American victory. The impact was Pacific forces of Japan and the US, marked a turning point in their military.

    The allies landed in Sicily and went on the Italian mainland. After the parties Council to Italy, the military took over forces on September 8. The German troops stationed in Italy seized control and continued to resist. Mussolini, who has been arrested by Italian authorities was rescued and they establish a fascist puppet regime. This weakened Germany and Germany fell.

    This was during blitz week. British bombers ruled Hamburg by Night in operation Gamorrah. British aircraft dropped 2300 tons of bombs on Hamburg. More than 1500 German to Billings were killed. Britain lost 12 aircraft. But to make matters worse for Germans, the US begin more bombings. This includes more raids. Operation Gomorrah proved horrible conditions for Hamburg. It killed more than 30,000 and destroyed 280,000 buildings disaffected Hitler and Germany.

    The idea was to bomb Berlin. This would result in many casualties. But this was never put use. If this would’ve happened it would’ve made a huge impact on Germany. Instead of this Dresden was to be destroyed. There was many problems with this and they didn’t have enough info about it to make a great attack.

    As part of a massive military operation, over 150,000 soldiers landed in France on September 11. The first troops cross into Germany. The Normandy landings were for Tuesday day.     This is called the greatest American battle of the war. This battle was the last major offensive in World War II. Hitler‘s idea was to split the allies. This lasted six weeks. There was 100,000+ casualties. The Germans launched a surprise attack on allied forces. It forced German troops to withdraw after the counteroffensive. This resulted in the loss of the Germans.     A lot of concentration camps were liberated put on this day the largest concentration camp was liberated. Auschwitz. More than 1 million were murdered. It was liberated by the red army this was because as the Soviet army advance, the Nazis transport prisoners away into Germany. Soviet forces liberated Auschwitz, and American forces liberated Buchenwald and Mauthausen. The effect of this was the Germans were ordered to tear down buildings and this destroyed all records of camps.

    Epic military campaigns between US Marines and the impend army of Japan. American forces invaded the island and this battle lasted for five weeks. It was the most bloodiest fighting and 21,000 were killed. There were struggles. The beach was deep and ashy. This made it very difficult. 70,000 US Marines landed on Iwo Jima. Nearly 7000 US died. After the battle, Iwo Jima served an emergency landing.

    This was the last major battle of World War II and unfortunately the bloodiest. This had a Normas losses with 100,000 Japanese deaths and 50,000 allied deaths. The Japanese was nagging at the US so we decided to go for them for a final push. Many kamikaze fighters were landing in harsh weather for this battle. Many other people died from napalm and starvation and some were even used as Japanese shields.

    Otherwise known as victory in Europe day. It celebrates the formal acceptance by the allies of World War II. Both Great Britain and US celebrate this. People put out mass banners. Germans surrendered to their Soviet enemies. This was when we realized it as a cease-fire.

    An American B-29 bomber drop the Worlds first atomic bomb over here Hiroshima. This immediately killed 80,000 people. Later on more than 10,000 will die due to radiation exposure. Three days later a second bomb was dropped killing 90,000 people. Two special bombs and “Little boy” and “Fat Man”, were dropped. This resulted in Hiroshima’s surrender. Fat man was drop on Nagasaki. Hiroshima ended up with 135,000 people dead and Hiroshima 60,000 people.

    Japan had surrendered. Since then he’s been known as VJ day. This was also one Japanese forces surrendered and took place of the USS Missouri. Harry S. Truman announced that Japan had surrendered. The crowd errupted in celebration.
