    Battle of the Atlantic
    Hitler aimed to make sure no food or war materials could go to Soviet Union or Great Britain. Due to the fact Britain relied on the materials from the sea Germany thought they could push Britain into submission. Hitler ordered ships to raid U.S East coast. Germany sunk 87 ships off the Atlantic shore and German wolf packs also destroyed ships. The allies responded by organizing their ships into convoys, using airplane radar to spot German U-boats. U.S also launched a crash shipboarding program.
  • Germany and Italy declares war on U.S

    Germany and Italy declares war on U.S
    Japan attacked pearl harbor which is why the U.S declare war on Japan. Germany and Italy declared war on U.S three days after U.S declared war on Japan due to the Tripartite agreement Japan had with Italy and Germany.
  • Stalingrad

    Stalingrad
    Germany invaded Stalingrad and prepared nightly bombings over the city. It destroyed so much of the city the Soviet Union thought about abandoning it but Stalin ordered them to stay and defend it. Soviet Union eventually closed in on the Germans, cutting of their supplies. Germany stayed and fought and later surrendered. This is a major turning point and the Soviet Union moved towards Germany.
  • Operation TORCH

    Operation TORCH
    British and American troops made it to Casablanca in Morocco, and Oran and Algiers in Algeria. They did this because almost a year had past without any action, even though invading North Africa provided little help it was better than nothing. In 1943 the Allies gained control of North Africa.
  • Operation OVERLORD

    Operation OVERLORD
    Operation OVERLORD was the code name for the Allied invasion of Normandy, France which was occupied by the Nazis. They landed on D-Day, the day when General Dwight D. Eisenhower gave the okay to this massive invasion. One of the largest seaborne invasions in history. Allies had troops on the Omaha Beach before midnight and they were able to get Germany out of France creating a huge victory for the Allies and a major loss for the Nazis.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle of the Bulge
    Hitler attempted to split the Allies and recapture the Belgian port of Antwerp. He had tanks drive into Allied territory in Northwestern Europe, hoping this would cut off their supply lines. They caught America off-guard and went deeper into Allied land, which created what appeared to be a bulge in Allied line. This battle lead to neutralization of the land. This was the last major German offense. It continued until January 1945.

    A larger concentration camp, that was primarily used for forced labor.
  • President Harry S. Truman

    President Harry S. Truman
    Truman is the nations 33rd president. On April 12th 1945 president Roosevelt had a stroke and died.
  • V-E Day

    V-E Day
    V-E Day stands for victory in Europe day. The Allies celebrated this day because the war in Europe was finally over. General Eisenhower accepted the surrender of the Third Reich.
