    Operation Sea Lion
    Hitler decided to launch an operation called Operation Sea Lion in July of 1940. The operation was an all out assault on Britains mainland. This was an air battle. He did this because he was scared that the British would heal from their recent defeat.

    Battle of Britain
    In September of 1940 America transferred 50 old destroyers to Britain in exchange for naval bases in the Western Hemisphere. This caused America to no longer be able to claim to be neutral. But that wasn’t enough to really help the British so they had to come up with another idea. After a lot of controversy the Lend lease act was approved. This act let The United States lend materials to Britain so that they could fight the war and then later have the materials returned back to them.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    On June 22 1941 Hitler decided to invade the Soviet Union, which went against the German-Soviet non-aggression pact. Germany although took down Poland and France in just weeks, they were having trouble taking down Russia because it was so big. The Soviet Union was not willing to give up. The Germans where having a hard time fighting during the winter. In the end Germany started a long retreat.
  • Operation Torch

    In 1943 The Army Air Force sent hundreds and then thousands of bombers to England in order to get ready for a large scale Strategic Bombing Campaign against Germany. They did this so that Germany would unconditionally surrender. The campaign would plan for America dropping bombs on Germanys ball-bearing factories, rail yards, oil fields and manufacturing centers during the day and The British would bomb cities during the night.
  • Operation Overlord

    Operation Overlord
    On June 6th 1944 The western Allies decided to start the biggest amphibious invasion in history when they attacked Norway. Multiple contingents from the Netherlands, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, and Greece decided to participate and provided air and naval support. First the plan began with overnight parachute landings, massive air attacks, and naval bombardments. They didn’t reach their goals the first day but they did gain a slight foothold.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    From February 4th to February 11th 1945 a conference was held. This conference was comprised of the heads of government. The United States, the United Kingdom, and The Soviet Union, which was represented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Premier Joseph Stalin. These heads of government all met to talk about how Europe would be reorganized after the war. However this conference became an intense controversy. It is considered a turning point in the Cold War.
