    Battle of Britain
    The Battle of Britain started when Germany bombed Great Britain in hopes of destroying their air forces. It was necessary for Germany to destroy Britain’s Royal Air Force before invading Great Britain. The battle was a major turning point of World War II. It ended when Germany’s Luftwaffe failed to gain air superiority over the Royal Air Forces even after months of targeting Britain’s air bases, military posts and its civilian population.

    Operation Barbarossa
    Operation Barbarossa was a code name for the German invasion of the Soviet Union. On June 22, 1941 Nazi Germany along with its Axis allies began their invasion of the Soviet Union where 4.5 million troops launched a surprise attack consisting of German controlled Poland, Finland and Romania. The Soviets were unprepared for the sudden attack and suffered enormous losses. It was a turning point because their failure caused Nazi Germany to fight a two-front war against superior forces.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch
    Operation Torch was an Allied invasion of North Africa (French-Morocco and Algeria) during the North African Campaign of WWII which began on November 8 and ended on November 16 of 1942. The allies organized three forces to seize the key ports and airports in Morocco and Algeria targeting Casablanca, Oran and Algiers. Operation Torch resulted in an allied victory, allowing American forces to fight Nazi Germany on a limited scale.
  • Operation Overload

    Operation Overload
    Operation Overload or Battle of Normandy was the successful invasion of Western Europe. The operation was launched on June 6 with the Normandy landings. Air and naval forces such as the Royal Australian Air Force, Royal New Zealand Air Force and the Royal Norwegian Navy were all used during the operation. The Allies invaded southern France on August 15 which lead to the liberation of Paris on August 25. German forces retreated across the Seine on August 30 after defeat ending Operation Overlord.

    Yalta Conference
    The Yalta Conference was a meeting consisting the three World War II allies, U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin. It was intended to discuss the re-establishment of the nations of war-torn Europe. With a possible allies victory, the aim was to decide what to do with Germany once it had been defeated. President Roosevelt had also hoped to gain Soviet support for the U.S. Pacific War against Japan.
