This disaster, known as the world's worst industrial disaster, was caused by methyl isocyanate, which spilt out from Union Carbide India Ltd’s. pesticide factory, this turned the city of Bhopal into a gas chamber. Dozens of people were killed or somehow affected, and the environment was severely affected too.

Minamata is a 2020 film, set in 1971 which tells the story of a photographer who decides to visit Minamata in order to photograph the effects of mercury poisoning as well as “Minamata disease” in the coastal communities. The film is based of true events of when a corporation was polluting the water, causing sickness to spread and harm both the residents as well as the environment.
