Kevin(age 17) enlists in the U.S. Army after graduating high school. He feels limited in his options due to his grades and his hometown is stifling. In Eriksons fifth stage, Identity vs. Role Confusion, the goal is to find his place in society, one that will help him find his true calling and satisfaction in his life. -
Kevin decides to marry; Intimacy vs. Isolation
Kevin(age 23)decides to marry Jeanette(age 22)in Afghanistan via proxy as they share the same values, ideals and goals in life. This is also to prevent the military from separating them as their assignments were both complete. In Eriksons sixth stage; Intimacy vs. Isolation the dilemma is wanting a partner to share the rest of your life with and avoid isolation. To have someone to care for you and to care for. -
Kevin's last hurrah: Integrity vs. Despair
In the last days of his life, Kevin reflects with his daughters, grandchildren and wife around him. He served honorably and retired, got his degree and pursued a second career, retired and enjoyed the later half of his life vacationing and spending time with his children and grandchildren, satisfied in his accomplishments. In Eriksons eighth stage, Integrity vs. Despair, the issue is a life well lived with few regrets vs a profound sense of loss at your choices and the wish to do it again.
