The goal of NOW was “to take action to bring American women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now.”

    Cesar Chavez organized UFW’s first successful nationwide consumers boycott of grapes picked on nonunion farms. It was in 1967, after the growers refused to give more pay, better working conditions, and union recognition, that this boycott began.

    Woodstock
    Lasted from August 15th to August 18th, 1969. The Woodstock Music and Art Fair brought together the diverse strands of the counterculture and about 400,000 people gathered to watch and celebrate on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. The festival was a strong start to the new way teens’ explored things such as drugs, sex, and music.

    Annual event that celebrates the support for environmental protection. This event was started by the Senator of Wisconsin, Gaylord Nelson, when he announced plans to hold a nation day of discussion and teaching about the environment. The next year was the first celebrated Earth Day.

    EPA was established on December 2nd, 1970 by President Nixon and stands for Environmental Protection Agency. Nixon did this by combining existing federal agencies concerned with air and water pollution to set and enforce national pollution-control standards.

    Supreme Court rules to legalize abortion in the Roe v. Wade case
    On January 22, 1973 the Supreme Court rules to pass the Roe v. Wade case. This case legalized abortion in the early stage, first 3 months, of pregnancy, states could still restrict it in later stages. This decision was based on the constitutional right to personal privacy.

    On February 27, 1973 approximately 200 followers of AIM took over the village of Wounded Knee. They protested and refused to leave until the US government agreed to investigate the treatment of indians and poor conditions on the reservation, as well as review more than 300 treaties.
