    The dust bowl was a long period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the economy and agriculture during the 1930s. There was severe drought and a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion.By 1940 there were about 2.5 million people that were affected by the Dust Bowl.

    FIFRA was first pass in 1947 but, established in 1972. The FIFRA established labeling provisions to food. FIFRA wants protection to the environment and the public’s health. One of the rules is that all products must have a registration form EPA before sales, transporting, or manufacturing.

They made three national programs the National Coastal Zone Management Program, the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, and the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program (CELCP). CZMA wants to balance competing land and water issues through state.

    CAFE purpose is to reduce energy consumption by increasing the fuel economy of cars and light trucks. They want to increase CAFE rapidly over the next years. CAFE goal is to improve our nation’s energy and are fuel economy.

    TSCA purpose was to stop harmful chemicals and from exposure to the public. There are about 60,000 chemicals that are used to make toys and food containers. Nearly 20% of chemicals are secrets according to EPA. But instead of demonstrating that the chemical is safe for use, the government has to prove that it is harmful in order to replace it. The TSCA has not exactly accomplished to stop harmful chemicals.

    CERCLA is responsible for the releases of hazardous substances that can endanger public health. There was about 1.6 billion collected in taxes for the cleaning of hazardous substance hurting the environment.

    The ozone layer protects use form the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. But during the 1980s, scientists observed that the stratospheric ozone layer was getting thinner. Montreal Protocol was passed too protect the ozone layer from destroying and targeted about 96 chemicals.

The Coalition Forces launched against Iraq, the Iraqi military forces in Kuwait opened valves and released large quantities of crude oil into the Gulf. The oil began to move north coast of Saudi Arabia, endangering zones and destroying wildlife habitats. Gulf War oil spill is one of the largest oil spills in the world.

    California Bans Plastic Bags
    The Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill into law on September 30 and toke effect on July 1, 2015. There is a 10 cent minimum charge for recycled paper bags. This made California the first state in the U.S. to ban plastic bags.
