  • Boundary Waters Treaty

    This treaty was put in place to settle disputes between Canada and the United States over their shared water. It ensured that the water would be shared and used responsibility. This makes sure the water isn’t over used by either side.
  • Dominion Forest Reserves and Parks Act

    This act allowed the creation of forest reserves and parks. This allowed the government to control the resources within these areas. Because these areas are protected a permit is needed to access the resources. The creation of this act helps protects the resources from being over used, saving the ecosystems in the area.
  • Department of the Environment Act

    Canada has a group dedicated to preserving the environment because of this act because it made Environment Canada part of the portfolio of the Minister of the Environment. It was now responsible for preserving the environment, working to help improve it, and providing environmental services. Environment Canada was also made in charge of policies and programs for environmental projects.
  • Canada Wildlife Act

    The Canada Wildlife Act was set to preserve and protect habitats of wildlife, specifically ones at risk. It gave joint management programs to the provinces and the Canadian Wildlife Services, allowing them to set up protected land areas. This helped insure the livelihood of the wildlife by protecting where they live.
  • Artic Waters Pollution Prevention Act

    This act states that Environment Canada will works with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada to create regulations on how they deal with waste from natural resources. More efforts to protect the artic from pollution happened because of this act.
  • Canada Water Act

    The Canada Water Act was created because of the high demands of water and concern of pollution. This act protects and manages water that is important nationally. It makes sure these waters have a good quality and are protected from pollution. It also allows the Minister to set up protection for provincial waters if the province is failing to do so. Overall this act ensures the quality and protection of water bodies, keeping these resources safe and healthy.

    The National Parks Act made preserving the environment the first priority of all national parks. This created new management systems to assure the land would be properly protected allowing the natural ecosystem to be unharmed.
  • Species at Risk Act

    By protecting and maintaining ecosystems this act works to protect species that are at risk. They also protect these species by preserving Canada’s natural heritage. This act helps by creating safety for species that need it. It also works to keep ecosystems healthy and keep the environment strong
  • Environmental Enforcement Act

    The laws that are set to protect the air, water, land, wildlife and national parks are more effectively enforced because of this act. It also created better responses to violations of the laws. This has helped to ensure protection of these protected things.
  • Fisheries Act

    This act was made to protect the habitats of fish and any fish used for commercial, recreation or Aboriginal fisheries. In result fish and the water they live in are protected. Anything that could damage or alter a fish habitat is prohibited under this act. It prevents the release of materials that could harm the fish into the water and creates protection from pollution. Because of this act, many species of fish have been protected and their habitats saved.
