    Queen Elizabeth I started the East India Company to develop trade between England and India. English became the language used in trading which made some Indians learn English. Later in 1858 when India became a British colony many more people learned English because they wanted to read English books and experience British culture.

    British settlers moved to the Caribbean and established plantations where Slaves from western Africa were brought to work. The slaves learned English from the sailors and the plantation owners and they mixed it with their native language. This is how Creole was born. Creole is an accent not a language and it differs from island to island. For example the Barbados variant is closer to standard English while Jamaica has a more distinct accent.

    The "First Fleet" arrived in modern-day Syndey, Australia. There were 11 ship carring about 780 english criminals. These criminals were transported to Australia as their punishment. They settled in different part of Australia and kept English as their language although, because they were isolated from England they quickly developed the Australian accent.
