    Elected into National Academy of Sciences
    Nagel played and essential role in the life of Columbia and the city of New York. Many considered him a great spokesman to what Philosophy can do in the science field. He was able to influence many students from all types of backgrounds and areas of study. This and many other contributions led him to be elected into the National Academy of Sciences.

    While receiving a Columbia award, he gave a small statement on his view on Philosophy. He mentioned "Philosophy is in general not a primary inquiry into the nature of things. It is a reflection on the conclusion of those inquiries that may sometimes terminate, as it did in the case of Spinoza, in a clarified vision of man's place in the scheme of things."
