  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    The Black Codes were laws that were designed to help control the newly freed African Americans. Some of the Black Codes made it illegal for Afican Americans to won or rent farms. These laws made it easier for white men to use advantage or the African Americans. This relates to race because even if they aren't being slaves, the government is still putting the whites in front of the African Americans.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1866

    Civil Rights Act of 1866
    The Civil Rights Act of 1866 gave the federal government the power to get involved in state affairs to protect African American's rights. It also included citizenship to all African American's. They made this bill due to the case of Dred Scott vs. Sandford because they said African American's weren't citizens of the United States of America. This relates to race because now African American's are certified citizens of the U.S.A.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    The First Reconstruction Act made the 10 states that didn't ratifiy the 14th Amendment, to form a new government. Only Tennesee joined the Union. Each state had to submit a new state constitution to prove that they were going to follow the 14th Amendment. This Act allowed African American men to vote in the election. Also, they made 5 sections in the south and each section would have a general that would basiclly be there government. This relates to race because now African American's can vote.

    14th Amendment
    President Johnson didn't like the Radical Republicans in the congressional elections of 1866. He made the 14th Amendment a huge issue during his reign. Some people feared fights between African American's and whites. Votes didn't like Johnson's view on the Amendment so they voteded against his ideas. This lead up to the Radical Reconstruction. This relates to race because it says that all people should be equal.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    The !5th Amendment prohibits states from denying voting rights to citizens based on there race. This means everyone that is a citizen can vote for anything. They made this an amendment due to people not allowing Afican American's to vote. The KKK might even kill an African American if they tried to vote. This relates to race because the whole amendment is based on peoples race.
