His family basically helped him out into going the right direction because in hawaii everything that you do is with you family. He never graduated high school. He decided to stay home and help his family. As a child he spent his life as a bronze beach boy at waikiki beach. Later he developed swimming and surfing skills. He used original wood used by the acient hawaians to build his board. -
Stockholm Olympics
He qualified for the Us Olympic Swimming Team. Winning Gold in the 100 meter freestyle and the 4 by 200 freestyle relay. -
The Beginning of Modern Day Surfing
While surfing in Sydneys Freshwater Surf Club the board that he built was noticed by locals in austrailia. Months later after surfing in austraila almost every store had one of his boards sold making him one of the founders of modern day surfing. One year later he brought the sport to the mainland in Southern, California. -
