Rafael Trujillo's cruel reign of dictatorship over the Dominican Republic. -
National Guard... Trujillo joined the Dominican Nation Guard/ Police, still in his younger ages. He soon quickly advanced through the ranks and earned himself a name as head of the National Guard in 1924.

The Election... In 1930 Trujillo ran against previous president Horacio Vasquez for president. Trujillo used his power to win the election. Afterwards, he claimed he had won 95% of the vote. Trujillo later established a secret police force.

Rise to Control... At first, his rise to power was supported by the United States, as Trujillo was anti-communism and supported a pro-US policy, but they later found him to be fascist. Trujillo greatly admired the fascist Francisco Franco from Spain too.
