Nazi operatives had posed as military officers to stage an attack on the radio station in Gleiwitz. This invasion was followed by the Phoney War, where Germany, Britain, and France all do not launch an attack.

These countries were defeated and the event was known as “Blitzkrieg” or “lightning war” due to the speed of the attacks. The Americans and the British had been evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk after being cut off by the Germans in the Battle of France.

Day and night time bombing would continue to become more widespread with greater intensity and with more high explosive bombs followed by thousands of incendiary bombs. 187 of the bombers reported successful missions.

    A coup d’etat in Belgrade overthrew the Yugoslav government, which two days prior had signed the Tripartite Pact in Vienna. In its place was installed a new government run by chief of the Air Staff, General Simovic and Prince Paul, the regent, was replaced by King Peter II. It was expected that the Simovic government would renounce the pact and would join Britain against Germany.

    Germany invades the Soviet Union, their former alliance. The Germans drive East to cut off the British. General Masservy senses this and orders guards at Fort Capuzzo. Division tanks form a screen against the advanced attackers. 388 British people were killed and missing, 588 were wounded, and they lost 91 tanks, 33 RAF fighters, and 3 bombers. On the other hand, 328 Germans were killed and missing, 350 were wounded, and they only lost 12 tanks and 10 aircraft.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Japan attacks the U.S. at Pearl Harbor. Hundreds of their fighter planes attacked the American Naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii. It only lasted 2 hours. They destroyed 20 Naval vessels, eight huge battlefields, and 300 airplanes. 2,000 American soldiers died, and 100 were wounded. The Americans entered the war after the Germans declared war on them in December 1941.

    Britain lacks aircraft carriers in the Mediterranean to transport fighter aircraft within flying distance of Malta, to provide protection from German and Italian air raids. On the request of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, U.S. loans carrier USS Wasp and destroyers USS Lang and USS Madison. USS Wasp and escorts leave the Clyde Estuary, Scotland, after loading 52 spitfires and their pilots.

    An American team was made to plan D-day invasion headed by Lieutenant General Morgan. At the meeting, Dwight D. Eisenhower explained his intentions for the attack. The plan was to land on the Normandy Coast, then build up the resources needed for battles. However, this coast was known for bad weather. Little did they know, they would have to postpone the attack because of the weather.

Later 5,000 ships and landing crafts carried troops and supplies from England to France.
