Sebastiano Serlio published Architettura
which he showed how to create a performance space within an existing room. he included drawings showing his version of Vitruvius's tragic, comic, and pastoral settings. these drawings fuse classical theatre architecture with Renaissance perspective painting. the principles of perspective drawing had been developed during the 15th century. the Greek, Roman and Elizabethan stages all used a generalized architectural façade as the basic background for all plays. -

King Henri II made call about theatres
he shut down the theatres for them to come up with other kinds of performances. He had banned performances of religious dramas in France. (pg.104 in Brockett) -

decreed a ban (Elizabeth I)
she decreed a ban on plays dealing with religious and political subjects. she did this for at least a year. (pg.104 in Brockett) Since people of all classes attended plays, playwrights needed to use stories, characters and words that would appeal to everybody. When Elizabeth I ascended to the throne she banned the performances all religious plays and stories (except in Church) to help stop the violence over religion. -

Queen Elizabeth I stopped them to hopefully stop the violence over religions. she also banned performances of unlicensed plays around 1559.in the 1570s, religious play cycles were banned. basically all plays were banned from everywhere in London -

An English playwriter, Author of the "Spanish Tragedy". He's also one of the most important figure in the development of Elizabethan drama. An arrest warrant was issued May 18, 1593. He accused his former roommate (Christopher Marlowe) of being a blasphemous traitor. he was being tortured on suspicion of treason May 12, 1593.

an English playwriter, poet and a translator of the Elizabethan era.
he did Tamburlaine which was the first English play written in blank verse which is a regular metrical but with unrhymed lines.it was believed that he himself was homosexual, and that he thought Jesus was a homosexual. he supposedly was a spy for the government in 1587. he was an atheist too. he was killed in a bar brawl on May 30th.

William Shakespeare
English playwrights, actor, poet, and owner of quite a bit of property. Regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's greatest dramatist. His known works between 1589-1613 which were primarily comedies and history and in his last phase were romances. he retired in 1613. he died within a month of filling out his will, and nothing explains his death.

it was an Elizabethan playhouse located in Whitechapel in the East side of London. records show that it was enclosed, walled constructed, and was up and running by July. -

Elizabethan Theatre (also call the Renaissance Theatre)
always played non-religious themes they were banned in 1570. located just outside London, it also is the first permanent theatre after the Red Lion. she banned unlicensed plays in 1559.it was basically round with an exterior diameter of about ninety-nine feet, the globe had three levels of roofed galleries, each about twelve feet six inches deep. Shakespeare partially owned this place after 1559.

it was noted for its comedy of manners, which focused on the amoral behavior and witty verbal exchanges of the rich and idle upper class. Restoration comedy was concerned above all with sexual conquests, advantageous marriages, the latest fashion, and a seeming determination to be shocked at nothing. the amoral tone of these plays has made them controversial ever since they were written.
