Learns how to portage, but isn't very good at it because he isn't buff and doesn't have the right muscles to do it so it becomes a struggle. -
Journal 6
Unloads his car and brings everything to the lake to pack up again and leave. Hides his car in the bushes and covers what's exposed with extra leaves. Learned how to steer a canoe (not well) as he goes along the rivers. -
Journal 8
-Gets attacked by a bear by leaving candy packets out in the open, spilling fish oil all over himself and just the bears curiosity -
Journal 11
-Crabbe goes to get something from a pack
- Mary gets angry at him for not going to the right pack and forbids him to open the pack he almost did. -

Finds out that her name is Mary Pallas. -
Journal 9
Crabbe falls off a cliff (waterfall) and has an "exotic" dream of a naked wman nursing him back to health. -
Journal 10
Ends up being a woman (dressed) actually nursing him back to health.
-She has reasons as to why she is in the wilderness as well but she never tells Crabbe why. -

-Crabbe takes Mary's "Big Test" and succeeds making his way back to Mary after a difficult series of obstacles. -

-Mary gives Crabbe the pipe that he smokes in the 2nd journal in therapy sessions.
-Gets the pipe to get his mind off of the withdrawal he's going through from Silent Sam -
Journal 14
Crabbe gets the realization that he's in love with Mary. -

Tells Mary that he loves her and then Mary gets all emotional and says she loves him too but only as a friend. -

-They break into a hunt camp to get supplies for the winter and they were caught by the people that were there camping.
-Mary was either raped or felt up and she was left shocked while they were running away from the hunt camp. -

Mary "fell" off a cliff and since Crabbe couldn't bury her, he cremated her body. -

-Crabbe finds out why Mary was so protective over the bag he tried to open earlier on
-He finds out Mary killed her husband by pulling the plug on him and thats why she ran away -

-Crabbe begins his trek home from the woods -

- Gets caught in a blizzard -Is able to get to a small cabin after pushing himself for so long -Is concerned about the condition of his left hand -Gets a ride into town by a nice man -Man soon learns that Crabbe has severe frostbite and that he needs to get to a hospital

-Crabbe finds out he has 2 amputated fingers
-Crabbe learns that his parents have to come and get him and he's very hesitant towards it but is respecting the police's orders. -
Beginning of the Book
Is admitted to the St. Bartholemew's General Hospital in Toronto ON. He lost 2 fingers due to frost bite and had pneumonia and physical exhaustion. -
Journal 1
Foreshadows about the pipe that Mary gave him and avoids all questions that Dr. Browne throws his way.
-Goes through therapy but doesn't actually participate.
-"Forgets significant things at significant times" -

Actually goes back and thinks about why he decided to run away in the first place. -
Journal 3
-Talks about how he planned his escape and how no one would be able to find him unless he wanted them to. -
Journal 22
-Crabbe is accepting the fact that he has to face his parents
-Crabbe tries to run away from them but Nurse Owens stopped him and talked some sense into him
-Crabbe felt really guilty for running away because of just the way they looked through the window pane in the room -
Journal 23
-Crabbe's father starts by getting into a small argument when he enters the room
-Crabbe tells his parents why he ran away -
