Jamie and his family are on The Star of Bethlehem to got from Scotland to Canada, the New Land. -
Davie gets sick
Jamie's little brother, Davie, gets sick of what is believed to be the Bubonic Plague, but he gets better just as The Star of Bethlehem lands on Cutwater, a village in Newfoundland. -
Jamie meets Tethani
Jamie explores the forests around Cutwater, despite his father's warnings not to. At a creek,he sees a native. The villigers of Cutwater fear and hate the natives, calling them ''savages.'' Jamie was too afraid to decline the trade of his copper flute for the native boy's copper necklace. -
Jamie befriends Tethani
Jamie slowly startes befriending Tethani. They trade with eachother and learn the other's language. -
Jamie meets Tethani's family
Jamie meets Tethani's village and his family, He has a little brother smaller than davie named Shadothai. -
Mr. Craven comes
The villagers talk about killing the ''savages'' but never did so, then Mr. Craven came to the village and makes a plan of snares and poisoned meat, as well as a battle to kill the natives. Jamie heard his plan and warns Tethani. -
Massacre
Tethani's family and his village are all massacred by the villagers. When people die, they go to The Land of the West, to know that the people has arrived there, there is a copper sunrise, but Tethani saw no copper sunrise when his village died so he is worried something is wrong. This is the climax of the story because it works it's way to the battle, where everything takes place. -
Tethani dies
Just when Tethani was about to tell Jamie what more his people needed to go to the Land of the West, Andrew killed him. Tethani died with a smile on his face. This is the dénouement of the story, when Tethani dies, everyone else in the village is already dead. This wraps up the story as it's getting closer to the end of the book. -
What they needed
After Tethani's death, Jamie figures out what more Tethani's family needed. They needed Tethani to be there with him, that's why he died with a smile on his face, knowing Andrew was behind him.
