The Russian revolution started in february 1917, which removed the Russians from World War one. This transformed the Russian Empire into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). This removed Russians regular monarchy with the world's first communist state. -

Soviet Union built a blockade cutting of the western allies from railway, road, and canal. These meant that the people cut off would not receive food and useful supplies. In response Western allies created the Berlin Airlift to carry supplies to people of west Berlin. Later the soviet lifted the blockade letting back in supplies from western allies. -
