  • Iron Curtain

    A term used by Winston Churchill to describe the geographical seperation of Communist states
  • Truman Doctrine

    A speech made by president Truman stating that the U.S. will aid Greece and Turkey economically and with military to prevent the spread of communism
  • The Marshall Plan

    This was an American program to help out Europe, the United States would give money to European nations to help rebuild their economies after WWII to try and stop the spread of communism
  • Berlin Airlift

  • Helsinki Accords

    The final act of the Conference on Security and Co- operation in Europe held in Helsinki, Finnland. 33 European states including the U.S. and Canada signed a treaty to improve realtions of the Communist bloc and the west.

  • Russian Invasion of Afghanistan

    This war lasted for 9 years and was apart of the Cold War. Soviet-lead Afghan forces fought against multi-national groups aided by China, the United States, Pakistan, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia
  • 1980 Moscow Olympics

    many countries boycotted the Olympics in Moscow because of the Soviet Union invasion of Afganistan
  • LA Olympics

    Moscow boycotted the US Olymipcs because 34 different countries, including the US, boycotted the Moscow Olympics in 1980 because they invaded Afghanistan

    Chernoblyn Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine that was a nuclear catastrophic accident controlled by the Soviet Union and spread radioactive particles in the atmosphere throughout all of Europe and Western Europe.
