    June 25, 1950- North Koreans swept across the 38th parallel in a surprise attack on South Korea.
    -October 1950- the Chinese felt threatened by the American fleet off their coast. They sent 300,000 troops to aid North Korea. Fight between North and South Korea had grown into a war between Chinese and Americans.
    -1952- UN troops had recaptured Seoul and regained control of South Korea.

    July 1962- Khrushchev secretly began to build 42 cuban missile sites in Cuba.
    -October- an American spy plane discovered them. President John F. Kennedy, declared that missiles so close to the U.S mainland were a threat. He demanded Soviets remove the missiles.
