The Marshall Plan
It was a European program set up to give economic relief to Europe countries effected in World War 2. The Americans gave a lot of the money to countries such as Britain and France, who were leading Allied forces in the war, and suffered a lot of damage to their land. The Soviet Union rejected the plan in order to keep the communist figure head strong. -
Creation of NATO
The United States and many 11 other western nations created this treaty organization in order to prohibit comminism to move any further. Because of communist threats of the Soviet Union, NATO was created to try to reduce any conflict. Some people were for NATO, while isolationists were strictly against US NATO involvment. -
Soviets Create and Test Nuclear Bomb
In Semipalatinsk Kazakhstan, The Soviet Union tested their first nuclear bomb, which was called "First Lightning". A town was build specifically for measuring the impact of the blat. The whole city was destroyed, as well as the animals that were put far away to test the radiation levels. Since president Truman caught wind of this experiment, he ordered the Hydrogen Bomb to be progressed, which could have been a thousand times stronger than the ones dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki -
The Korean War
In order to spread communism, the North Korean forces sent a strong attack onto South Korea, in which South Korea had very little defence against. The North Koreans had a strong punch against the South Koreans and captured cities one by one. The North continued to demolish the South up until America, and other allied nations, started to intervene in the fighting. The war is technically still going on today, but is in a stale mate. -
United States Creates and Tests the Hydrogen Bomb
Many American scientists came together to create a and test an extremely powerful, deadly hydrogen bomb. Many experts, such as Albert Einstein, warned the American government never to use this bomb because of the devistation it can bring to it's target. The government tested the bomb in a place where it could not affect humans, and the US soon learned of the bomb's tremendous destructive ability. -
Creation of the Warsaw Pact
in order to counter the US creation of NATO, the Soviet Union and many other European nations created The Warsaw Pact. This allied system was to ensure the defense of Europe by making sure that if one of the the Soviet's allied countrys got attacked by an outside force, then the other nations within the pact would have to get involved in the conflict. The pact was made to prevent new war. -
The Vietnam War
The North Vietnam forces and their allies, known as the Viet Cong, attacked the South Vietnam forces. With the fear of communism spreading to other nations, The United States sent many of it's own troops to intervene with the war and fight on behalf of South Korea. Many people opposed the war because they felt America shouldn't have been involved with the war. 58,000 Americans ended up dead because of the US Intervention. -
Bay of Pigs
The Americans sent soldiers into Korea to intervene with the Korean War that was happening between North and South Korea. Because North Korea had a strong seige into South Korea and and threatened US with the spreading of communism, America sent many troops into a bay in South Korea, where the troops entered the country. The troops then proceeded into South Korea to attack the opposing North Korean forces in order to rid South Korea from any communist state. -
Berlin Wall Erection
Since Germany was divided into four parts, it was decided that Berlin should be divided into four parts as well. To prevent anybody from outside of Berlin to get inside, and to prevent anybody from the inside of Berlin to get outside, The Berlin Wall was erected. It was to keep all the nation's land seperated and to keep the people remaining in their own governed areas. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
In order to combat the fact that America had missiles in Turkey, just a couple hundred miles away from the Soviet boarder, the Soviet Union put nuclear missiles on Cuba for close striking range on the United States. The United States freaked out and put a blockade on Cuba so that no Soviet trucks and ships could not bring any more missiles to Cuba. Eventually, both the US and the Soviet Union agreed to take the missiles away from each other to avoid a devestating catastrophe. -
The Six Day War
The Israel military caight wind that three Arab states were trying to coordinate an attack on Israel, itself. In order to prevent this massive attack, Israel suprise attacked the Arab nations, which turned out to be extremely successful. Most of the Arab's military vessels were destroyed by these attacks and the Arab's morale was very low. Not only did the short war suprise Israel, but it was a complete devestation for the Arabs. -
United States Sends a Man to the Moon
America and the Soviet Union were in another tightly contested battle to see who could advance the other one in technology. In order to do so, the Space Race became an important step in the competetition between the two countries to try to triumph the other country. American won the Space Race, however, by sending Neil Armstrong and a couple other astronauts to the moon for the very first time in the world's history. -
Olympic Hockey Game
The American Olympic hockey team squared off against the Soviet Union despite the fierce rivalry that there was between each other due to the Cold War. The Americans ended up winning the close hockey contest 4-3. This meant a lot to the Americans because The US had a long-lasting hatred for the Soviet Union and winning the game showed triumph and success over them. -
German Reunification/Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Easy German communist empire decided that they would allow the people to cross sections of Berlin whenever they pleased. Later that night, people came to the wall with sledge hammers and other materials to knock down the wall altogether. They did this out of hatred, and to celebrate the fact that the nationalistic quarantine that Berlin citizens had to endure was finally over. -
Collapse of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union began to suffer from a struggling economy that was brought on by the war that the USSR was a part of in Afghanistan. America was secretely feeding the Afghanistan Taliban weapons, which turned out to be very successful in weakening the Soviet Union and their economy. Because Ronald Ragon was very strong on keeping the world communist-free, the president increased the pace in the nuclear arms race, in which the Soviets could not keep up.
