Potsdam Conference
Potsddam Conference was in July 1945 and that is when the Big Three-The United Statea, Great Britain, and the Soviet Union had met for the final wartime conference near Berlin. They all also had to present at Yalta in February 1945. Stalin had made a promise to Roovevelt that he would allow free elections. In July of 1945, Stalin did not keep his promise and the Soviets had ended up preventing the free election for Poland and also they had baanned the democratic parties. -
United Nations
The United Nations was made to try and help spread world peace at the end of the war. In April of 1945 there were 50 nation in the United Nations. The United Nations was made to keep world peace but it ended up with the United States and the Soliet Union to be able to convince the other countries to be on there political side. -
Truman Doctrine
Truman Doctrine was when the United States did not want the Soviet Union to influence Greece and Turkey. Britain's economy had been hurt from the war so they had to step down and American had offered to take over.The reason for the Truman Doctrine to start was because Truman had asked the government if he could have $400 million so that America can aid Greece and Turkey. When we were sending over the aid to Greece and Turkey we were putting them at great risk of the communist takeing over. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was to help Europe because all the factories had been bomed or looted. There were millions of people having to live in the refugee camps because of the European governments had to figure out how they were going to re settle. But that winter was bad it damaged the crops and froze the rivers and cutting off water it also cut off transportation. George Marshall the Secretary of State had recived $13 billion to aid 16 countries. The Communist party had also lost a lot of its voters -
Berlin Airlift
The Berlin Airlift was to fly food and supplies to west Berlin. We stared to fly this stuff to west Berlin because the Soleit had blockade and we were trying to brake it by flying things in to them. We had brought 2.3 million tons of supplies in 277,000 flights in 327 days just so that we were able to get them the things that they needed. -
NATO
NATO was to a defensice military alliance. The NATO was made up of ten of Western Europe nations- Belgium, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Neatherlands Norway and Portugal.This was in case one an other got attacked and needed help. Later on Greece and Turkey had joined. -
Warsaw Pact
The Warsaw Pact was a mutual defense organization that let the Soviets in charge of the armed forces that were apart of the pact. This pact was to help the Soviets with the war aginst America.
