Cold War

  • Yalta Conference

    World War II meeting of all governments in the United States, Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom. They discussed Europes post-war plans, while Yalta became a subject of intense controrery.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Stated that the United Stateswould provide money to countries such as Greece and Turkey which threatened by communist expansion. This played a part in starting the cold war.
  • The Marshall Plan

    Designed to rebuild the stability of war-torn Europe. It aimed to aid Europes Recovery. The US was affraid that communists groups would gain power. The Soviet Union dominating Europe seemed very possible before the cold war.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Supplied Germany for the cold war by droppping tons of food to the city in many different flights.
  • NATO

    (North Atlantic Treaty Organs)
    Its a system of collective detence where the states agreed to mutual deverse in response to an attack caused by the cold war.
  • USSR Atomic Bomb

    It exploded on the US which built up a need for security, so they built nuclear weapons. It dropped in 1949 to be the first ever atomic bomb. This was a cause of the cold war.
  • Korean War Begins

    War between South Korea and North Korea. The result of political division of Korea's focus was on the cold war.
  • Rosenberg Spy Case

    Julius Rosenberg and Ethel Greeenglass killed american citizens for passing info about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union and helped the United States plan to bomb the Soviet Union.
  • East German Uprising

    It started with a hit by East Berlin. Construction workers uprised against the German democratic republic the next day.
  • Korean War ends

    The bombing turned into trench war. The Armistice agreement was signed and it restord the two borders which allowed them to focus on the cold war.
  • Nikita Kruschev

    He came to power as a politician who led the Soviet Union during the cold war. He was a part of the de-stalinization cause he wanted to get rid of Stalin and save lives.
  • Warsaw Pact

    The cold war led to the war-saw pact. Its a collective defence treaty among eight communist states of central and eastern Europe in existence during the cold war.
  • Hungarian Uprising

    Nationwide revolt agaisnt hungarian government. October 22 till November 10. The first major threat to control restablished the free endoctrine.
  • Suputnik

    Russian space program. Americans and russians were competing to be the first person on the moon. Russians sent a dog and americans sent a monkey for testing enviroments.
  • U2 incident

    The U2 united states plane was shot down and the mission failed. Seven years of hard work caused embarrasment when it all failed.
  • Bay of pigs invasion

    Military invasion on Cuba. Intended to destroy the left wing of the government of cast to the soviet union and the United States were forced into the cold war because of this.
  • Berlin Wall ( building up)

    A barbed wire fence was built to keep western fascists from entering east germany. This was seen as a very powerful symbol of the cold war.
  • Cuban missile crisis

    The cold war almost became a nuclear conflict. The united states was creating many missiles which would have killed many people.
  • Prague Spring

    Dubeck granted more and more rights to the citizens of Czechslovakia. Giving or granting them extra freedoms.
  • Soviet Union invades Afghanistan

    Part of the cold war. Insurgents recieved military training, as well as weapons and billions of dollars fron the United States, United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. It resulted in afghanistans fleeing the country and arabian soldiers being killed.
  • Lech Walesa organizes trade union soldarity

    First non-communist party controlled trade union in a Warsaw Pact country broad anti-bureacratic social movement.
  • Berlin Wall (taking down)

    The head of the east german communist party announced that the citizens could cross. That night people brought picks and hammers and all sorts of tools to take down the wall.
  • Mikhail Gorbechev

    He came to power. His good strategizing contributed to the end of the cold war. He led the dissolution of the Soviet Union and removed the constitutional role of the communists party.
  • German Unification

    Also known as German Unity. German democrat republic joined the federal republic to form Germany reunited. The east economy collapsed pushing Germany into recession.
