    The Potsdam Conference was one of the last World War Two meetings held in Potsdam Germany on July 17th, 1945. The participants were the allies of world war two which were deciding on how divide out Germany who had surrendered before. They made agreements on Europe and punishments for land and war.

    On March 5th, 1946 Churchill gave a speech during the cold war about the iron curtain. The iron curtain was a boundary that divided Europe into to two seperate places. On one side of Europe were countries that were connected to the Soviet union. On the other side they had democratic governments.

    On April 3rd, 1948 After the devastation of World War Two which had caused many deaths, injuries, and ruined buildings, the United States came up with The Marshall Plan which was signed by president Truman. It was used to prevent the spread of communism. It also helped rebuild European economies. After the plan, The European economies began to grow and finally ended in in 1951 and was replaced by the Mutual Security Plan.

    The Warsaw Pact was a treaty over 8 sommunist states of Central and Eatern Europe.This treaty was during the cold war. This was a mutual defense that put the Soviets in charge of the member states. It had called the members of the states and defended anyone attacked by an outside force.

    The Suez Crisis was a military conflict between Egypt, Britain, France, Israel, U.S., Soviet Union, and United Nations that began October 29th, 1956. After the Egypt governemnt had nationalized the Suez Canal France, Israel, and Britain had attacked Egypt. The U.S. had then made Britain and France withdraw. The Suez Crisis had ended in 1957.

    Sputnik 1 was the first artificial earth satellite. It was launched by the Soviet Union. The satellite had traveled at about 29,000 kph. Sputnik 2 was the second space aircraft that was launched into earths orbit. It had carried a dog and and was 4 meters.

    In 1961 was a failed invasion by Cuba. It was suppose to overthrow the left wing governement of Fidel Castro. The invaded force was later on defeated by the Cuban forces.

    The Berlin Wall was built by communist East German authorities during the cold war. It was built to cut off the land from East Berlin and East Germany. West Berlin was surrounded by large walls and other things guarding it to prevent people from getting over. On November 9th, 1989 it was finally done.

    During the Cold War on October 14th, 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis between the United States and Soviet Union began. After the attempt by the United States to overthrow the Cuban goverment of Fidel Castro and failed, Castro thought the U.S. would try again. The Soviet union then had built missile sites in Cuba. After president Kennedy had found out, he put ships all around cuba. The leaders then came to an agreement to end the missile crisis.

    On November 22, 1963 President Kennery was shot and killed in Dllas Texas during a motorcade. Lee Oswald was the person who had killed Kennedy and was killed by Jack Ruby before he got sent to trial.

    The USS Pueblo was an American research ship. The ship was attacked by the air and naval forces of North Korea. After capturing the American sailors, the North Korean's tortured and held them hostage for 11 months.

    The Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty was a treaty used to stop the spread of nuclear weapons. 190 states had agreed to the treaty which had officially started in 1940.

    The United Nations passed in 1971. The Chinese civil war resulted in communists in control of main China. It had been passed in return to United Nations General Assembly Resolution.

After 444 days they released the hostages free, the day after the signing of Algiers Accords on January 20th, 1981.

    The Korean Airline Flight 007 was a Korean plane that was flying from New York to Seoul. This plane was shot down in 1983 into the Sea of Japan. The plane had been shot by the Soviet Interceptor. Every person on that plane had been killed.
