  • Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D)

    Mutually Assured Destruction (M.A.D)
    A doctrine of military strategy and national security policy in which a full-scale use of high-yield weapons of mass destruction by 2 or more opposing sides would cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender. It is based on the theory that the enermies use strong, threatening weapons in order to prevent each other of using them, referring to the atomic bomb.
  • Vietnam War

    Vietnam War
    The Vietnam War, also known in Vietnam as the Resistance War Against America or simply the American War, was a Cold War-era proxy war that occurred in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia for 18 years. This war followed the First Indochina War and was fought between North Vietnam—supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies—and the government of South Vietnam—supported by the United States and other anti-communist allies.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    The CIA sponsored a paramilitary group to invade Cuba at a beach named Playa Giron in the Bay of Pigs. Just after his election a year before, JOHN F. KENNEDY was informed of the invasion and he gave his consent. However, after shipping the soldiers, the U.S. never sent the airforce that they had promised for support. At first, the local revolutionary militia, led by CAPTAIN JOSÉ RAMÓN FERNÁNDEZ, was overwhelmed.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion (Part 2)

    Then PRIME MINISTER FIDEL CASTRO took personal control and the invaders surrendered after three days. The invaders were captured by Castro and publicly interrogated before being sent back to the United States. -The image relates because it shows the the invaders captures by Castro after failing their mission.
  • Cuba Missile Crisis (Part 2)

    After a confrontation between the Soviets trying to get to Cuba and the Americans blocking their way an agreement was settled on October 28th. The Soviets would dismantle their weapons in Cuba and return them to the Soviet Union and JOHN F. KENNEDY would do a oublic declaration to never invade Cuba.
  • Cuba Missile Crisis

    In May 1962 NIKITA KHRUSHEV (polititian who led the Soviet Union) had the idea of placing Soviet Union nuclear missiles in Cuba to aboid another invasion attempt. In July of that year the construction of several missile sites began, but the DEFENSE INTELLIGENCY AGENCY took photographic evidence on October 14th and the U.S. did a military blockade around Cuba that did not allow weapons from the Soviet Union to be delivered.
  • Strategic Arms Limitation (SALT)

    -SALT began in 1969.
    -SALT were negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union that were aimed at curtailing the manufacture of strategic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
    -These negotiations began in Helsinki, Finland in 1972. Strategic arms limitations talks were agreed on by the two superpowers in the summer of 1968, and full-scale negotiations began in November 1969.

    -The first Agreement, known as SALT I and SALT II were signed by the United States and the UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS in 1972 and 1979 and were intended to restrain the arms race in strategic ballistic missiles armed with nucelar weapons.
    -It was first suggested by U.S PRESIDENT LYNDON B. JOHNSON in 1967.
    -SALT I led to the ANTI BALLISTIC MISSILE TREATY and an interim agreement between the two countries.

  • '79 Afghanistan War

    '79 Afghanistan War
    The Afghanistan war lasted 9 years. The USSR wanted Afghanistan since they were neighbour countries of Iran and Iraq, which had a lot of oil the Soviets could use to make weapons. Unfourtunately, the U.S., UK, Saudi Arabia and more countries helped the Peshawar Seven group financially and militarily, while the Soviets and Iran helped the Tehran Eight; both groups came into war. Not only that but, the U.S. Ambassador of Afghanistan, Adolph Dubs, was killed by the soviets causing more conflict.
  • Iran-Contra Affair

    -It began in 1938 and ended in 1988.
    -It was a secret arrangement in the 1980s to provide funds to the Nicaraguan contra rebels from profits gained by selling arms to Iran.
    -The Iran-contra affair was the product of two separate initatives during the administration of PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN.
    -The first was a commitment to aid the contras who were conducting a guerrilla war againts the SANDINISTA government of Nicaragua.

    In 1984, the BOLAND AMENDMENT passed, which said that the CIA and Department of Defense could not give militaristic aid.
    -One specification of the deal made in 1985, was that over 500 anti-tank missiles would be sent to Iran from Israel in exchange for AMERICAN REVEREND BENJAMIN WEIR.

  • Brandenberg Gate Speech "Tear down this wall"

    Brandenberg Gate Speech "Tear down this wall"
    -"Tear down this wall" was the challenge issued by U.S President Ronald Reagan to Soviet Union leader MIKHAIL GORBACHER to destroy the BERLIN WALL.
    -Reagan challenged Gorbachev, who was then the GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF THE SOVIET UNION, to tear it down as an emblem of Gorbachev's desire to increase freedom in the EASTERN BLOC.
