    Joseph Stalin
    Leader of SU during and after WWII. Was really big into communism and was trying to spread it every where by all means. Tried to spread it to Eastern Europe. He was part of the Warsaw Pact which helped him form alliances with satelites in Eastern Europe.
  • Ho Chi Minh

    Ho Chi Minh
    Communist leader of Vietnam. Led Vietnam into battle against Japanese and got an unexpected win and help North and South Vietnamese come together and fight together. He got rid of French influence in Vietnam.

    It divided Europe from the end of WWII till the end of the Cold war. The seperation of the SU and East Germany and Western Germany. Seperation of communism from other believes.

    A document that Harry Truman created that said that the US would support and aid Greece as well as Turkey so they wouldn't become comuunism. Start of the Cold War.

    Economic alliance that had free trade among memebers of the nation for all products. Made up of mostly Western Europe Countries. This important because it formed alliances and helped the Western Europe countries economy.

    Airlift in Berlin, where the US flew supplies over the wall to the citizens because the Soviet Union closed off outside access to Berlin. It helped the US from falling into communsim and letting Russia to do what they want.

    An organization that consist of North America and Northern European nations. They agreed that if there was an attack inside one of their countries they would all send in troops to help out.

    "Ivy Mike", the first testing of the hydrogen bomb by the US. Much more destructive than atomic bombs. This showed that nuclear power was upgrading and bombs are becoming stronger.

    New SU leader after Stalin. He closed prison camps eased censorship and was leader of the "peaceful coexistence." He publicly denounced Stalin's abuse of power.

    Geneva Accords
    Documents that split Vietnam into North and South Vietnam. Instead of unifing them they sperated them. It set up the Vietnam war.

    The main security agency for the Soviet Union. They also were internal security, intelligence, and military. They gather intelligence for the SU.

    Vietnam war between North and South Veitnam. North was ommunist and supported by SU and south was capitalist and supported by the US. US had to withdraw after stalemate.

    Alliance and defense organization between 8 communist countries during Cold War. SU created it and consisted of Eastern Europe countries. Fought against their rivals in Cold War. (NATO)

    Nasser was the leader of Egypt and nationalized the Suez Canal which caused Britian and France to lose power of it. Battle at the Suez Canal was Eygpt verse France and Britian but the US and SU made BR and FR to retreat. Nassar became very popular for this because of his Arab Nationalism.

    First artificial Earth Satallite that 585 polished sphere with four intenas to get radio satallite launched by the SU. This helped new military and technology upgrade. This also showed that the SU was rebuilding itself.

    A guarded concrete wall dividing East Berlin and West Berlin. It created a barrier that divided communism and democracy. The Soviet Union's spreading of cumminism became weaker.

    The Soviet Union was sending nuclear weapons to Cuba.The US set up a blockade arouns Cuba and Soviet Union backed out and took the missles back. This showed how close we were to WWlll.

    Documents that were signed in Helsinki, Finlad that agreed to guarante basic rights to and prisoner. It still apply's today and it helps protect prisons for getting beaten or punished for no reason.

    Native Iranina's tool and held 52 Americans hostage for 444 days. One of the first major terrorism attack.

    The Soviet Union deployed the 40th army into Afghanistan. Since Russia and Afghanistan had an alliance Afghanistan asked for assistance because of the invassion of the Mujahideen's. This showed that they were loyal to each other.

    Lech Walese was the co-leader of Solidarity Movement which created a independent labor union. It won millions of members and demanded political and economic change.

    The US 65 other countries boycotted the games in SU because of the SU and Afghanistan. This led to the boycotting of the 1984 Summer games and it showed how far our countries would go to avoid communism.

    Summer Olympics were 14 Eastern Bloc including the SU, Cuba and East Germany boycotted the games. They then created their own games call the Friendship games. This shows the battle for comminism.

    Energetic leader who wanted to get the SU back on its feet. His reforms brought economic turmoil with cause shortages of goods and prices went up a lot. The Soviet Union fell under his power in 1991. This helped current day Russia the way they are.

    Perestroika- restructing of the government and economy
    Gorgbachev called for these to help out the goverment and economy in the SU. These two things are what caused SU economy to spiral down and caused him to be overthrown.

    The Berlin Wall was torn down to reunite East and West Berlin. It put all of Berlin under a democracy instead of being communist.

    First Russian president in Russia after the dissolving of the Soviet Union. Came to power under the Perestroika movement and turned Russia's communist economy into a marketing economy.

    Began his rule in 1999 to 2000, then again in 2008- 2012 for Russia. He was a tough leader and helped build Russia a strong economy. He helped Russia be part of the NATO. But people questioned his polocies.
