    Potsdam Conference
    The Potsdam Conference divided Germany from Austria into four areas. They decided that the capital of Germany was to be divided into four areas. The Russian Polish and Korea was to be divided into American and Soviet areas.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The Truman Doctrine was to prevent the Soviet Union from spreading. It said that the United States would provide political, military assistance to democratic nations. In Truman's speech he asked the United States to help Greece and Turkey.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan was help offered by the United States to European countries. This plan was rejected by Stalin and any country that wanted the help was removed. The aid was only given to Western Europe countries.
  • Berlin Blockade

    Berlin Blockade
    Russia cut all roadways and rails to the US and UK. This blocked all of Western Berlins food and supply access. The US and UK used airplanes to Western Berlin and this was known as the Berlin Airlift.

    The NATO was to unify the Western Allies. They were preparing for the possible invasion by the Soviet Union. This was to keep communism from spreading.

    The Korean War started when North Korea invaded South Korea. After the War ended North Korea was still affiliated with Russia. Then South Korea was affiliated with the USA.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    The Revolution started as a Hungarian protest against communism. It then escalated and Soviet tanks were brought into it. Then a new government was formed making it a democracy.
  • Suez Crisis

    A British and French ship went to invade Egypt to regain control over the Suez canal. Not Many people liked this because Russia had offered America support over Egypt. The British and French were then forced to withdrawl.
  • Sputnik

    Sputnik was the Soviet Unions first artificial satellite. Both the United States and the Soviet Union were trying to improve technology and be the first to put something in space. The Soviet Union did this raise tension in the Cold War.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race was a competition between the Soviet Union and the United Sates. The competition was to prove who had the better technology to get someone to space. The United States got the first human on the moon with Apollo 11.
  • U-2 Spy Incident

    The U2 got shot down by the Soviet Union. The pilot of the U2 Francis Gray Powers had been on a spy mission. He was intended to take photos of the denied territory of Russia.

    The Berlin Wall was built to create a border between East and West Germany. They built it to keep Western fascists from getting to Eastern Germany. Some people were allowed to cross the border and sometimes people would just try to destroy it.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a thirteen day stand off between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union put armed missiles 90 miles from the U.S shore. The Americans were ready to use military force if necessary.

    JFK was assassinated by Lee Harvey. Lee Harvey was then sent to jail for his crime. He has always been speculated for for he may have been a communist.

    The Malta Summit was a meeting between president George Bush and the Soviet General. This was shortly after the fall of the Berlin wall. People see this as the start of the end of the Cold War.
