Potsdam Conferance
This was where a group of men came together to negosiate an end to the war. The Soviet leader Joseph Stalin, the British prime misister, and U.S. Predent Bush were the main people incharge of this. At this meeting they were deciding on what would happen once war would end. -
Truman doctorine
It is a document stating that the US will help any democratic nation that is under threat. They will provide military, political, and economic support to those countries. This was established by President Harry S. Truman. This was the official doctrine of the Cold war. -
Marshall Plan
The United States gave economic aid and financial support for European countries. The US was helping the countries rebuild and get back onto their feet after WWII. They gave them $13 billion. This was proposed by the Secretary of state. -
NATO
This was an alliance between the western millitary. It is supposed to make them stronger. They made the alliance because there was a threat that the soviet Union was gong to invade. -
H-Bomb
This was one of the most important things that started the Cold war. This jump started the arms Race. The US beat Russia in building and compleating the Hydrogen bomb. -
Federal Civil Defence Administration Established
This was made by President Truman. The Federal Civil Defence became a real agency. They send out infomation to others. -
Hungarian Revolution
This was an up rise against the communist Hungarian government. This also involved the republics and soviet imposed policies. Hungarian withdrew from the Warsaw pact. The communist won. -
Space Race
The US built Sputnik II which carried the first living animal to go into space. It carried Laika a dog. The Russians sent people in space and they survived. Then the US sent out the first manned orbit of the moon. Apollo 11 landed on the moon and became the first man to step on the moon. -
Sputnik
This is the first artificial satellite that is rotating around earth. It was made and released by the soviet Union. It had four antennas on it to get signals. After the launch of this satellite both sides of the war were working hard trying to invent newer and better things. -
U-2 Incident
the U-2 was a spy plane. They were in Soviet territory while they were shot down. There mission was to take pictures of denied territory. This was located in Russia. -
Berlin Wall
Is a boarder dividing Eastern and Western Germany. It was torn down November 9th 1989. The eastern side put up the wall. They did this because people were leaving their side and going to the western democrat side. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
It was a stand off between the US and the Soviet Union. It was about isolationism of the nuclear bombs from the Soviet Union on Cuba. The US was against the bombs and were ready to attack. Which isn't the best because if we eject a bomb and they do it is the end of the world. -
JFK Assination
He was assassinated in Dallas Texas. He was shot and died. He just finished a speech and was watching motorcycles go by while he was shot to death. Kennedy was the president but his position was given to Lyndon Baines Johnson. -
Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty
This is a treaty betwreen the US and the Soviets. This meeting was because of the arms race. They were discussing limmiting the amount of missiles. -
President Nixion Resigns
He was The US's 37th president. He resigned because he was impiched. He was impeached for obstrustion to justice, abuse of power, and comtempt with congress. Nixon refused to resign he waited untill he was actually impeached untill he left hs position.
