Postdam Conference
President Truman, Soviet Premier Stalin, and British Prime Minister Churchill met up at Potsdam Germany near Berlin. They met up to end WWII. They decided to team up and threat Japan to surrender or face, "prompt and utter destruction." -

Creation of Israel
David Ben-Guran, the head of the Jewish Agency wanted a country for Jewish people. The US agreed to this but the British had a problem with it, but in the end the Jewish won and got there nation. -
Berlin Airlift
Russians wanted Berlin to themselves so they set up a wall around them, so nobody could get in or out. Well the US and other countries just used planes to get in and deliver suppies and food. -
Formation of NATO
To stop communist the US and 11 other western nations joined togther to form the North Atlantic Treay Organiztion (NATO). in reply to this the Soviet Union and other nations in Eastern Europe made the Warsaw pact. -
Korean War

Russians sent a satelite into space and the US didn't like that because we wanted to be the best. John F. Kennedy set a goal to by the end of the decade that we have a guy walk on the moon. 8 years later Niel Armstrong walked on the moon. -
Vietnam War
North and South Vietnam had a struggle between nationalist forces they were trying to unify the country under a communist government. The US didn't want to spread communist so they joined up with South Vietnam. The US went into this knowing they had no way of winning and lost a lot of soldiers so they surrendered and now this is considered what not to do. -
Paris East/West talks
Talks between Nikita Khrushchev and Dwight Eisenhower concerning the fate of Germany broke down when a USA U2 spy plane was shot down over Russian airspace. -

Berlin Wall Constructed
People were crossing between East and West Berlin. They didn't like that so well they wanted to be seperated. So they built a wall seperating streets and neighborhoods. the wall was 43.1 kilometers long. -

Tiananmen Spuare Massacre
There was a protest going on in China in the Tianmen Square for a greater democracy and wanted no more communist. The Chinese military and police had enough so they steamed through the square throwing bombs and everything. Some of the protestors tried to escape. But alot were killed and 10,000 were arrested -

The Soviet Union was falling apart, nobody wanted to be part of it anymore they all wanted it to be there own. So all the countries went there own way but one. The Soviet president , Mikhail Gobachev was dissapointed in himself so he resigned.
