    CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA
    A permanent government at Richmond, Va., replaced a provisional government, established in February 1861 at Montgomery, Alabama, a year later. President Jefferson Davis and Vice President Alexander H. Stephens headed the Confederacy, operating under a structure similar to that of the United States. The new nation soon acquired other symbols of sovereignty, such as its own stamps and a flag known as the Stars and Bars.

    EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION
    Emancipation Proclamation did not free all slaves in the United States. Rather, it declared free only those slaves living in states not under Union control. William Seward, Lincoln's secretary of state, commented, Lincoln was fully aware of the irony, but he did not want to antagonize the slave states loyal to the Union by setting their slaves free.

    The congress created freedman's bureau. The job for it was to feed and cloth war refugees. The bureau also formerly enslaved people find jobs and negotiate labor contracts. They did'nt provide land. The freedman's bureau also worked closely with northern charities to eduate formly and slaved people.

    The 15th admendment was presended to the congress on February 26,1869. The amendment was created to give equal voting rights to african-american citizens. The admendment became official on March 30, 1870 going black citizensthe right to vote . Before the 15th admendment was brought forth to congress each state was given the choice on deciding the citizens right to vote.
