Plessy v. Ferguson

Plessy was a black man that baought a first class train ticket. The problem with that was that only whites were allowed in the first class train because of segragation. When plessy entered the train he was arrested and braought before a court.

Brown v. Board of Education

May 17, 1954

schools were being segragated from black and whtie people. Having segragated school was not good so black people started to protest against having segragated schools

Emmett Till is murdered

Aug 28, 1955

Emmett Till went to a southern state and said something to a white woman. Than some white people came and beat him up and threw him in a river. His mother made an open casket because she wanted everyone to see his face

Montgomery Bus Boycott

Rosa Parks sat down on a bus and refused to get up when a white person got on the bus. She was arrested and put to trial. Than a boycot on busses was in action by blacks and the bus drivers had no choice but to take away that law because they were loosing money.

Little Rock School desegregation

Nine black kids were going ot go to a all white school but the govener did not allow them to go and called in the police so that they can stop all riots. But eventually they were allowed to go to the school and than they ended up graduating.

Sit-ins in Greensboro/Nashville

Feb 1, 1960

A few black kids came into a resturant and sat down where they were not allowed to sit. They were arrested. Than thousands of blacks came in and did the same thing. The police came in to arrest all the people but first some whites came in and beat the blacks up. Jails were overfilled with people.

March on Birmingham

Mar 12, 1963

Black people came out to march but when they came out the police was ordered to detain all of them. Fire fighters came out and sprayed down all the black people that were protesting and also sent out attack dogs.
