The Election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln became president.
No one in the South voted because they didn't trust Abraham. It was significant because South Carolina threatened to secede or withdraw from the United states. -
South Carolina Secedes
South Carolina was the first to secede. In 1861 Southern state reps met in Alabama. It was significant because Jefferson Davis was elected as our president and created their own constitution. -
Attack on Fort Sumter
The Attack on Fort Sumter was when Southerns attacked and started the civil war. It was significant because leaders of the Confederate States of America decide to attack Fort Sumter before the Union ships can arrive. -
Battle of Bull Run/Manassas
The Battle of Bull Run/Manassas was when North had a goal to invade Virginia and take Confederate capital Richmond. Confederates were successful in the battle and it changed the way North saw the war. It was significant because Lincoln requests for a real Army of 500,00 soldiers. -
Battle of Antietam
The Battle of Antietam was the bloodiest day of all America history. First major win for North. It was significant because after Antietam Lincoln sees a chance to capitalize on the victory and issues that Emancipation Proclamation. -
Battle of Fredericksburg
The Battle of Fredericksburg was when McLellan was replaced by General Burnside after Antietam. After the loss Lee moved his army back into Virginia. It was significant because Burnside attacks and Confederates win. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The Emancipation Proclamation freed all slaves in confederate states. Throughout the war Lincoln was hesitant to free the slaves. It was significant because Lincoln waits for impressive victory and Antietam delivers him a perfect opportunity. -
Battle of Vicksburg
The Battle of Vicksburg was when Vicksburg was the last stronghold of the Confederates on the Mississippi River. Victory at Vicksburg opened up the deep South to Union control. It was significant because the Union has control of the Mississippi RIver and could split up the South. -
Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg was a three day battle on rocky hills and fields around Gettysburg. Around 90,00 union troops died. It was significant because it was the last time lee and confederacy ever invade the North. -
54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner
The 54th Massachusetts was the attack to Fort Wagner in South Carolina. They didn't show much courage in the battlefield. It was significant because it was most famous for all black regiments. -
Gettysburg Address
Gettysburg Address was Lincoln's famous speech. It was significant because Lincoln came to Gettysburg to speak at dedication of cemetery for 3,500 soldiers buried there. -
Sherman’s March to the Sea
Sherman’s March to the Sea was a war not only against enemy troops, but against anything the supports enemy. It was significant because Sherman's troops tore up rail lines, destroyed crops, and burned an looted towns. Homes of civilians were also burned in the process. -
13th Amendment Passed
The 13th Amendment was passed after Lincoln death. The 13th Amendment was to abolish slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude, and to nullified the Fugitive Slave Act and the 3/5 Compromise. It was significant because the end was near, victories for the Union destruction of the South. -
Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse
The Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse was where Lee and Grant met. Court House where Lee officially surrendered. It was significant because ending the civil war and Southern hopes of being a country. Grant goal was to stop fighting and return home in peace.
