  • Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education
    The case started when Linda Brown was not allowed to go to school that was closest to her home. Her parents along with 13 others filed a lawsuit against the board of education of Topeka, Kansas. It ruled in favor of the Browns saying that it is not equal because in the 14th amendement it says everyone will be treated equal in both physical and emotional states.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    After Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man, Martin Luther King, Jr told everyone to start boycotting the bus system. It was thought to be a one day thing, but it turned out to be dragged out for 381 days.
  • Little Rock High School desegregated

    Little Rock High School desegregated
    A group known as the Little Rock Nine help the start of desgregating Little Rock High School. Due to the overwhelming amount of mobs that would show up when the nine students would go to school, Eisenhower issued a blockade to follow the students to insure their safety.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders
    The Freedom Riders were activist trying to desegregate the bus system in the south. This group included many blacks and whites. They tried to show that we can all be friends.
  • James Meredith enrolls at the University of Mississippi

    James Meredith enrolls at the University of Mississippi
    James Meredith enrolled at the University of Mississippi and was accepted. The mayor did not want to desegregate the university. Kennedy sent a military blockade to make sure he wasn't harmed while enrolled there.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    This was one of biggest rallies held at Washington. It was a peaceful march for equality for jobs and to give the African Americans full American freedoms.
