    President Truman signed Exective Oder 9981 giving equality and opportunity in the armed servives wtihout regard of their race.
  • Brown vs, Board Education

    Brown vs, Board Education
    The Supreme Court unanimously agreeing that segregation in school was unconstitutional. They decided on desegregating school so all races can be in the same schools.
  • Separate but Not Equal

    Separate but Not Equal
    1954 Supreme Court ruled that seprate schools could never be equal, thus striking down Plessy vs. Feruson are order to desegregate.
  • Civil Disobedience/Nonviolent Protest

    Civil Disobedience/Nonviolent Protest
    Refusing to obey certain laws in order to change those laws or change government policy/techiques such as boycotting, picketing, etc. are used.
  • Bus Boycott

    December 1st 1955 Rosa Parks had to give up her bus seat to a white person in Montgomery, Alabama she was arrested and jailed. The African American were upset with this situation and they decided to find a different way of tranportation instead of a bus.

    1957 governor refuses to obey Supreme Court decision to desegregate to central high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Police and Arkansas National guard used to enforce school segregation.

    The Sit-ins was a protest to allow African American to be serve and dine in whites-only restaurant.
  • Birmingham Alabama

    Birmingham Alabama
    The Civil Rights Movement was moving onward to Alabama to desegregate the unequal rights. The racist chief of police threaten store owners to jail if they allowed African American in their store.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

    Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    A baptist minister, helps lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott and becomes a national civil leader. Also this is the date when he did his speech of "I Have a Dream".
