  • Segregation Laws

    Segregation Laws
    State laws that require segregation (seperation of the whites and colored) were created. This was carried out in the use of transport like busses and trains, public facilities and banning interracial marriages. These laws are named "Jim Crow Laws"
  • Lynching-free year

    Lynching-free year
    1952 was the first year where absolutely no lynching, which is killing someone (usuall without trial) by hanging, was present since 1881. Not a single lynching event occured during the whole year.
  • Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka

    Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka
    This occured to stop the segregation in education in Topeka, Kansas. This was a court case of Mr. Brown when he sued the Board of Education of Topeka due to the fact that his daughter had to walk several miles to get to school when there is a white-only school nearby their house. Mr. Brown won his case and segregation was demolished in all public school ever since.
  • The Bus Boycott

    The Bus Boycott
    This is the time when all African-Americans stopped using public transports to protest against racial segregation in public transports in Alabama. This started when an African-American seamstress named Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to get up to give her seat to a white man in a bus.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    This event occured when a grou[ African-American students were enrolled into Little Rock Central High School, Arkansas. However, they were not allowed to enter the school when the state governor used national huntsmen to guard them. Fortunately, President Eisenhower supported them and sent 1000 paratroopers to protect them.
  • "I have a dream" speech

    "I have a dream" speech
    This speech was given by Martin Luther King Jr. who is an activist that demanded equal rights for the African-Americans. He delivered his speech as a call to end racism in the United States. He delivered this speech to over 250,000 civil rights supporters at that time. One of his most famous quote from his speech was
    "I have a dream that one day little black boys and girls will be holding hands with little white boys and girls." -Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Great Migration

    Great Migration
    The Africans in the South of America decided to migrate to the North for a better living condition with no descrimination. However, segregation was still present even in the North but the conditions were better compared to living in the south.
