    14 year old kid from Chicago is kidnapped and murdered because he whistled at a white woman. This becomes a "jumpstart" to the movement.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa Parks famously took a stand and refused to give her seat to a white woman in the front of a bus and was arrested. This event led to a bus boycott and eventually to end segregation on busses
  • southern christian leadership conference

    Martin Luther King, Charles Steele, and Fred Schuttlesworth create the southern christian leadership confrence which is essential to organizing peacefull protests
  • Little Rock Nine

    Nine black students tried to enter a a previously all white highschool and were not allowed in, even though the law had been changed. The national guard had to help to allow the students to attend. They became known as the "Little Rock Nine".
  • James Meredith

    James Meredith is the first black student to enroll into the University Of Mississippi, creating serious rioting.

    Martin Luther King is arrested at a protest in Alabama and writes a letter from jail saying that it is the job of citizents to "disobey unjust laws"

    200,000 citizens march to the lincoln memorial with Martin Luther King to hear his "I have a dream" speech

    protestors marched to montgomery, pushing for voting rights, but are blockd by police. 50 protestors are hospitalized.

    Unarmed teenager michael brown was shot and killed by a white officer in Ferguson Missouri, riots started all over the state and in some other areas. I thought I should add that when this (and a few other things) happened I didn't really think of them as making history. It makes sense, but I wonder why I didn't put it together.
