    Interracial marriages were first made illegal in Maryland. This law meant that two people of a different color could not legally marry. If they tried to there were many consequences such as enslavement and exile.

    Brown v. The Board of Education
    Brown fought in the supreme court for his daughter to go to an all white school that was closer to their home. In the end the court decided that the state laws creating segregated schools was unconstitutional.
  • Emmett Till Murdered

    Emmett Till Murdered
    During this year Emmett Till was murdered by a group of all white men. He had went to a convenience store and the white women at the counter claimed that he had tried to flirt with him. A couple nights later her husband and his friends went to his house abducted him and later tortured and killed him.

    Rosa Parks Arrested- Beginning of Bus Boycott
    Rosa Parks was arrested on this date when she was on the bus and refused to give her seat to a white person when they told her to move. This sparked the bus boycott which meant, no black people would ride the bus for over a year.

    The two of different color went out of their state where it was illegal to marry inter racially. When they returned they were arrested and tried in supreme court. They won and the ban on interracial marriage started to lift.
  • Medgar Evers Killer Convicted

    Medgar Evers Killer Convicted
    Medgar was assassinated because of what he did for a living. He investigated crimes against blacks in his city. His killer was not convicted until 31 years after the killing. This is because at first he was tried under an all white jury and then he was tried under a mixed jury.
