    Due to a court order, Alabama University accepts their first ever black student to attend the school Autherine Lucy, although the government finds a way to not let her attend her classes

    Whites show anger for bus boycott.
    In the 1st 2 months of the year whites are mad about the bus boycott and in effect of their anger, it ended up in the bombing of 4 black churches and houses of civil rights leaders

    Riots over James Meridith
    From september 30 to october 1st, riots erupt over James Meredith's enrollment at the University of Mississippi.
  • Ross Barnet orders state troopers to stop.

    Ross Barnet orders state troopers to stop.
    On September 26, Ross Barnett, the governor of Mississippi, orders state troopers to stop Meredith from entering the University of Mississippi campus.
  • JFK was assasinated.

    JFK was assasinated.
    JFK was murdered on november 22nd and his successor Lyndon b. Johnson used to countries anger to pass new civil rights legislation.
  • Martin Luther got arrested.

    Martin Luther got arrested.
    On April 12, the Birmingham police arrest Martin Luther King, Jr. for demonstrating in the city without a city permit
  • 3 workers ran away

    3 workers ran away
    3 freedom summer workers escaped/ ran away and their bodies were found in a river and in a dam all badly beaten.
  • Vote registration.

    From June to August, the SNCC organizes a vote registration drive in Mississippi, which is now called the Freedom Summer.
