  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
    Millions of students around the country attended segregated schools and the blacks had the the inferior ones. The NAACP and Marshall brought the issue of segregated schools to the supreme court. The court combined the two cases (Briggs and Brown) and several others from around the country into a single case. This weakened the "Seperate but equal" policy and had broke down the walls of segregations in schools.

    After a day of hard work Rosa took the bus and sat in the section reserved for african americans after the white section filled up she was ordered to give up here seat. She simple refused and was arressted. This action would result in the Montgomery Bus System Boycott.

    Montgomery bus boycott
    After Rosa Parks was arrested the NAACP and the community of african americans recognized an opurtunity to rebel against the bus system. The plan was to boycott the system by not riding the buses for a day but instead it lead to almost a year long rebellion. They would car pool each other and walk to where they needed to be. This really hurt the bus system and so the Supreme Court ruled it was unconsitutional to segregate buses.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Little Rock Nine were the first blacks to attend a white school. The Brown v. Board of Education made this possible. Whites were so outraged with this that they would mob them up and harass them while the gaurds made no effort to protect them from the hostile crowd they would even spat at them and tore their clothing while not letting them enter the school building. Eisenhower had to send 1,000 u.s. guards that would guard the kids 24 hours. This just showed how strong racism was in some parts.
  • Freedom Riders from Washington D.C

    Freedom Riders from Washington D.C
    A group of 13 volunteers rode a bus to New Orleans,Lousiana. They used facilities in bus staions and in towns they passed. At first they received mild harassment then on may 14 one of the buses was swarmed and the mob firebombed the bus and beat the Freedom Riders as they escaped. This would be shown in newspapers nationwide.

    March on Washington
    This march was used to build support for the civil rights movement.It was the largest civil rights demonstration ever held in the united states. More than 200,000 people of all races were there!
  • I Have a Dream Speech

    I Have a Dream Speech
    Martin Luther King Jr. delivered this speech at the end of the rally of the March on washington. It was partly intended to demonstrate mass supposrt for civil rights legislation proposed by President Kennedy. He began his speech with the african american struggle throughout history and for freedom. Towards the end he then started to speak from his heart.
  • Black Panthers Party

    Black Panthers Party
    Huey Newton and Bobby Seale found this group called Black Panther Party in Oakland, California. The group rejected the nonviolence revolution with the violent one instead. They would carry guns and would protect their neighborhood from the police brutality. They were proud to be African Americans and fight for the rights they deserved. This was caused by the Black Power where the African Americans relied on themselves to solve problems.
  • MLK Assassination

    MLK Assassination
    MLK was hit by a sniper bullet while standing in front of his room at Lorraine Motel. Blacks were so outraged by the murder they took to the streets across the united states in a massive way of riots. An escaped convict by the name of James Earl Ray was arressted for the murder.
