  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    The act that was passed that public services were not to be segergated.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    When schools were still segergated and it was not fair for all of the students. They passed a law saying that school segeragation was illegal.
  • Emmet Till is Murdered

    He was a boy from the North who went to visit relatives in the South. He talked to a white women in what they thought was the wrong way and 3 white men murdered him. His mother had his funeral in Chicago with an open castket so everyone can see what they did to her son and how bad the South really was.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott

    In Montgomery, Alabama there was a bus boycott where no African American took the bus because they were not being treated equal. It all started with the arrest of Rosa Parks, when she did not want to get up and give up her seat to a whtie person.
  • Little Rock Nine

    There were nine Black students who were being intergrated into a school full of White students. But they were having issues because the first day of school the governor had the National Guard but to make sure the nine Black students were not let in. The next day the National Guard was removed and the students were let in but there was not enough protection for them so they couldn't stay. Then President Eishenhower called in the Army to go and protect the 9 students.
  • Sit-ins in Greensboro/Nashville

    College students would go into diner and sit at the counter. They would not order anything or say anything. But they were arrested for disturbance.
  • March on Birmingham

    Kids were pulled out of school to assemble Marches. The day they were gathering in a church, the police came with their police dogs and the firemen came and attached the waterhoese to the water and started to spray the water a the children.
  • March on Washington

    There was a huge March, and that is where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his "I have a Dream" speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
  • Civil Rights act

    This act made all forms of discrimination illegal. It was movitivated by the March on Washingtion, which put pressure on the government in finally pass such legislation.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    The act was passed to allow everyone to vote, and to emphazie the 15th ammendment.
  • Martin Luther King Assassinated

    The day that Martin Luther King was killed.
