  • Plessy vs. Ferguson

    Black and White people had to be in separate carts for the train. Plessy was in the eyes of many white, but he had a black grand parent that classified him as black.
  • Brown vs. School Board

    A man fought for the black sudents to go to school with the white students because he had to see his daughter walk past the white school everyday just to get to the bus stop to bring her to the school that she has to go to. The school board said that that was unconstitutional so they allowed black students to go to school with the white studnts
  • Emmett Till Incident

    Emmett Till was killed because during his trip to visit some family, he was at a store and he either said something to a white lady or he whistled at her. White men went to the house of his uncle to see him then a few days later they found his body in the river and his uncle could barely recognize him. His mom had an open casket for his funeral because she wanted people to see how things were back in the south.
  • Montgomery Bus Incident

    What sparked this to happen was when Rosa Park got arrested for not giving up her seat to a white person. Many black people became furious, so they stopped taking the bus because they say that it was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court judged the bus rule as unconstitutional so black people no longer had to give up their seats.
  • Little Rock School Incident

    9 black high school students were the first to go to a white high school and many people were not happy about it. The situation was so bad that the president had to send the national guard to help them. The state government didn't want the black kids to go to school with the white kids, but the federal government did.
  • Sit-ins

    The black students decided that they would sit in the white people's place at the diner's. That went on for about two weeks until there was this huge fight at one of the diner's and the black people got arrested even though they didn't even fight back. Some people refused to pay the fine so they went to jail for about a month.
  • March on Birmingham

    Students would not go to school and do a march around town for their parents. The police got fed up so they started arresting them, bringing out the dogs, and spraying the students with the hose from the firemen. After that, the president made a bill saying that black people could get jobs with white people.
  • March on Washington

    Martin Kuther King made his I have a dream speech and he did it at the Lincoln memorial. Many people from all over went to Washington that day. He made his speech which touched many people's lives and opened up others.
  • Civil Rights Act

    This was an act that stopped racial discrimination.
  • Voting Rights

    Black people got to vote because the law said that you can not discriminate against color or gender
  • Assassination of MLK

    MLK was shot and killed by James Earl Ray. This made an outburst because many people especiall black people were angered and saddened by the death of their leader who stood up for them. People were on a search for two months to find the killer of the man that held hope for them
