    In Chicago, Illinois at a lunch table. The "sit in" was when African Americans sat in restaurants in the white sections and acted like nothing was happening. This was another thing that helped lead to the desegregation of the south.

    The Brown Vs. Board of Education case stated that "Seperate but equal is NOT ok" Segregation of white and Negro children in the public schools of a State solely on the basis of race, pursuant to state laws permitting or requiring such segregation, denies to Negro children the equal protection of the laws guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment -- even though the physical facilities and other "tangible" factors of white and Negro schools may be equal.

    Rosa Parks was tired after a long day of work and decided to take a seat on the bus on her ride home. Because she sat down and refused to give up her seat to a white passenger, she was arrested for disobeying an Alabama law requiring black people to relinquish seats to white people when the bus was full. (Blacks also had to sit at the back of the bus.) Her arrest sparked a 381-day boycott of the Montgomery bus system. Court decision banning segregation on public transportation

    MLK gives his "I have a Dream" Speech
    the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation. He gave this speech to 250,00 people of white and black descent in Washington D.C. This speech was trying to pursuade everyone to fight for desegregation in the South. He was saying to not be violent towards the people but to do it in the least violent way possible.

    In Harlem,New York, Malcom X, the black nationalist and founder of the Organization of Afro-American Unity, is shot to death. It Is believed the people who killed him were members of the Black Muslim Faith, which he had recently abandoned in favor of the orthodox Islam. He chose to try persuading people to use violence in order to get desegregation in the South
