    When Ching-Chong was 12 years old, he was offered a risky oppurtunity to immigrate to America in almost 3 months. He was only 12, and he loved his family. However, he knew that in order to stay alive, he had to leave home and head to this new place called America.

    Due to communism, Ching-Chong is forced to immigrate. His parents also know that there is prosperity and many other chinese immigrants in America. His parents hope that Ching-Chong can strike gold and become rich and live happily. Either way, Ching-Chong boards a boat to America with a wealthy family that is secretly paying for Ching-Chongs' voyage.

    Ching-Chong arrived in Seatle and passed inspection as the other families' son. America was filled with chinese immigrants, and he was in the west during the time of Americas westward expansion.

    Ching-Chong had been living with the same family that brought him over since he came to America. His "adopted parents" weren't doing as well in the new country as they had expected, and he took it upon himself to help them. Ching-Chong did this by leaving for gold which was still being found in California.

    On May 8th, 1882, the Chinese Exclusion Act banned immigration, banned Chinese from gaining citisenship, and encouraged racism in California. Ching-Chong couldn't be alone at any time for fear that he might get beaten. He was allowed to keep his railroad job (because that helped the government) but it ruined his chance of ever striking it rich. The act was said to be repealed in 1902.

    The Chinese Immigration enforced a 50 dollar fee for all Chinese immigrants coming to America. Although this didn't affect Ching-Chong diectly, it increased racial tension with Chinese immigrants.

    Ching-Chong died a peaceful death in his ssleep the night before his birhtday. He was buried in Califonia after a small funeral consisting of 10 of his closest friends. One of rich was now rich. Ching-Chong hadn't achived THE American dream, but he had achieved HIS American dream, which was happiness.
