  • Brown and The Board of Education

  • The Little Rock Nine

The Little Rock Nine were 9 African American children that were let into an all-white school. At first, they couldn't get into school because of all the people but eventually, after an escort and trying to get through the large angry mod of white children and their parents, they made it through their day. Only 8 of the 9 children finished the school year.
  • The Greensboro Four

Four black college students were sitting in an all-white restaurant and when asked to leave, they refused. More and more students joined them and this continued and was called the "sit-ins" throughout other cities and states.
  • Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was only 6-years-old when she attended her first day of school at an all-white school in New Orleans. On the way to school every day, she would have to be escorted to her school and to her classes because of the large angry mobs that would be out front waiting for her. People would be yelling threats and insults and she would have to sit in her own class by herself.
  • School Walk Out

Martian Luther King Jr. had planned for a peaceful march but was arrested as soon as it started. Underage black students did a school walk-out and marched. Many students were arrested but the jails began to fill up and so local police and fire departments were called and began to spray the people with high powered hoses or attack dogs to attack the children. Later because that didn't work there was to be a small bomb to scare them but instead, it killed 4 young girls and injured many others.
