  • Black Codes

    Black Codes
    picture fromThe Black Codes were laws, that would help control newly freed African Americans. Some black codes let whites that employed African Americans take advantage of them. The codes also made it eligal to wone or rent farms. So the codes didn't have much of a diffrencs fron slavery. It still separated the people by race.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1866

    Civil Rights Act of 1866
    Picture fromThe Civil Rights Act of 1866 let the federal goverment get involved in states affairs to protect African Americans' rights. It also gave citizenship to african americans, unlike the Supreme Courts desision in 1857. They had rulled that African Americans were not citizens. So the Civil Rights Act lets other stater help the African Americans.
  • Reconstruction Acts

    Reconstruction Acts
    The first construction act passed by congress, required states to form new goverments. The second Reconstruction Act gave power to the army to register voters in each distrect. By 1868, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolins, and South Carolina hadset up new governments.
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment
    Picture from Congress worryed that the corts might overturn the Civil Rights Act. So they proposed another amendment to the Constitution, that the states made in 1868. The 14th Amendment garenteed that citizenship wouldn't be taken away by later passing laws. It also said no state could take a person's life, liberty, or property.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment
    Picture fromCongress proposed the fifteenth amendment in 1869. this amendment enshered that the state and federal governments were not allowed to turn down any white male citizen. Because of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude." It was passed in 1870.
